Interview to David Tanganelli, professor of International Management at UIC

The internationalization of compa-

nies and the rise to foreign markets

are, probably, the highest changes

in Spanish economy in the last thir-

ty years. The fact of leaping to in-

ternational expansion can generate

important benefit for companies,

but before doing it, it is necessary to

know some important facts about

it. David Tanganelli, professor of

International Management at Uni-

versitat Internacional de Catalunya

(UIC), details some keys that pro-

fessionals should know in order to

make the Spanish toy companies to

leap to international markets.

- Why Spanish companies should leap to international

markets?

- It not only helps companies to increase sales and expand

their businesses, something that is important. The inter-

nalisation of operations also allows companies to access

new knowledge, practice and innovations. Currently, we

should add the reason of knowledge and learning to the

commercial cause, as well as the access to other com-

panies which could become partners and collaborators in

the near future.

- Which key aspects should companies keep in mind

when kicking off their internationalisation plan?

- I would stand out the fact of making an intern audit in

order to see clearly if there is a financial support to work

with, and also to value if there are enough human resour-

ces to allow the company to become international. In the

other side, the internationalisation plan should never for-

get about cultural matters and differences between the

origin country and the objective markets. At last, I will say

that the option of becoming international with the support
