Aidico Finalises the analyses of seismic vulnerability of the Church of Saint Cristóbal of Lorca

Aidico, the Technological Institute of the Construction, has culminated the works of inspection, analysis and evaluation of the structural state of the Church of Saint Cristóbal of Lorca (Murcia) after the earthquake of does a year, where part of his structure suffered grave desperfectos. These studies have developed with advanced technology to analyse the damages or injuries produced by the seism in the tower-bell tower, arches, central vault as well as in the lateral vaults.

The work realised freamers inside the agreement of collaboration signed between the Foundation Luz of the Images and the Institute Aidico, for the promotion and use of the technologies advanced in the process of diagnostic and evaluation of the Goods of Cultural Interest (BIC).

The analyses carried out have had like aim the evaluation of the scope of the damages, the diagnostic of the structure affected through experimental proofs and theoretical analyses. Like this, technicians of the Institute have established the necessary recommendations for the structural intervention in the church, as the one of not using concrete neither steel so that they do not add weight to the structure of the temple of the 17th century. Later to said analysis poses a group of actions for the seismic improvement of the respectful construction with the historical value of the temple, and no only performances of repair.

In this sense, the technical works have consisted in the inspection of detail of the damages or injuries produced by the seism, the application of sonic and ultrasonic technicians of the pillars, the mechanical characterisation of the factories to know the resistant characteristics, compositivas and of homogeneity in pillars. Although the greater focus of attention have obtained it the bell tower as well as the cúpula of the central ship by means of observation of radar interferométrico since they have resulted gravely affected by the earthquake.

Fits to stand out that the Institute, in his strategy of internationalisation, has attained a bidding managed by United Nations for the recovery of the historical heritage of Panama.

The agreement consists in the realisation of the previous studies and the design of the manual of preservation of the Monumental Complex of Our Mrs. of the Merced of the ancient helmet of Panama. It treats of a Church of the 17th century whose building and surroundings has to recover given the high degree of deterioration. In this sense will improve his artesonado wooden as well as the deteriorations in the façade caused by the step of the time.
