Valtra N101, first foray of Agco in the range of tractors with biogas-operated
June 30, 2010
The model Valtra N101, Agco brand and Agco Sisu Power, can work with biogas or diesel.
From Agco, distributor and international manufacturer of agricultural machinery, investigates to do reality what to date supposed an utopia: the launching of tractors accionados by Biogás. Sweden is the stage in which the company carries out the first proofs of the incorporation of this fuel to one of the models of one of his represented: the Valtra N101. “The development of the tractor and generator of Biogás shows the wish of Agco to create solutions that allow the efficient use of renewable natural resources” , has declared in this regard Martin Richenhagen, president, manager and adviser delegated of Agco. Said and fact, without realizar any change in the engine diesel originario, produces between a 70 and 80% of the power with biogás. The engine with double fuel works like an engine diesel. The gas injects with the air of the admission and the combustion occurs when a small quantity of diesel injects to the cylinder. In the case of not having of biogás, the engine can work totally with diesel.
Cutting edge technology to optimize the use of diesel oil and biogas
With a power of 110 HP, the N101 Valtra tractor is equipped with front loader, front linkage and front TDF. This equipment is designed as a multi-purpose tractor for farms, municipal services and contractors who have the possibility to refuel biogas in his job. Biogas cylinders are placed in a secure location on the right side of the frame, bearing in mind that the entire facility has been designed according to European standards for the approval of vehicles. In the first test model, the capability of biogas is 170 litres, which corresponds to approximately 30 to a pressure of 200 bar litres of diesel fuel. At a rate of normal activity, this amount is sufficient to complete three to four hours of work. "Has been used high-tech - explains Jari Rautjärvi, director Manager of Valtra - biogas Valtra tractor." "Both diesel injection system and gas have their own common ramp controlled electronically, which allows to optimize the relationship diesel / biogas".
The demonstration unit was developed by Valtra in collaboration with Afcon Oy, Oy Alt-Control, RAP Clean Air Systems, the University of Turku and Ecocat Group applied sciences. Valtra, Agco Sisu Power Genpowex sister company was also involved in the project. The latter helped develop a generator of dual-fuel display, also, the agricultural fair Borgeby Fältdagar. From the beginning, Valtra partners in the design of this technology have been Biogas Syd and Lantmannen Maskin. For the time being, this tractor shall be submitted to further tests in Skåne, while the laboratory of engines will remain with the development of the dual-fuel engine. "The technology of Agco also manages environmental benefits." "Our solutions in transmissions and engines reduce emissions and noise, and to improve the energy efficiency", Martin Richenhagen value. As a curiosity, Agco has recently been selected by the Department of energy of United States for the collection and efficient transportation of biomass to biofuels production facilities. It subscribes to the commitment of the company in providing innovations that contribute to a more competitive field and, at the same time, more sustainable.
Between August and late last year, Valtra was able to reduce carbon dioxide emissions in their shipments of parcel in a total of 270,16 tons. A reduction that was achieved in collaboration with the logistics company DHL. Valtra is the first industrial customer of importance who took part in the 'gogreen' service (get green) of DHL, one of the most important logistics partners of this manufacturer and distributor of agricultural machinery. "We have the intention to continue to participate in this program, as the first five months have shown us how much can be achieved in terms of reducing carbon dioxide emissions." The program includes all the services of Express Courier DHL provides to Valtra, mainly supply of spare parts. In addition, Valtra uses the services of DHL for the transport of containers, deliveries of tractors and warehouse, "stated thereon, Matti Salminen, Manager of logistics in Valtra."
The GoGreen service reduces emissions of carbon dioxide planning efficiently routes and logistic services. In addition, emissions of carbon dioxide that are generated are offset by planting trees and other projects. On June 9, both companies planted trees that act as sinks of carbon dioxide on a plot of State-owned in Padasjoki, Finland. According to estimates, a single tree catches 20 kilos of carbon dioxide a year. Or what is the same, 1,000 kilos an estimated lifetime of 50 years. These offset projects comply with the Kyoto Protocol.
