UNE standard on flushable products
The Spanish Standardisation Association, UNE, has published the UNE 149002:2019 Standard: Acceptance Criteria for products that can be flushed down the toilet. This standard sets out the requirements to determine if products are biodegradable and the criteria to determine whether they can or cannot be flushed down the toilet.
The standard provides an effective response to the problem of clogging in the sewage network, by promoting high-quality, eco-friendly disposable products through the establishment of objective criteria.
The UNE 149002 Standard establishes that wipes and other disposable products must meet a number of requirements regarding composition, sedimentation capacity, dispersion, disintegration and biodegradation. In order to meet these requirements, products must successfully pass all the tests that certify their compliance with the different requirements or acceptance criteria. For example, these products cannot contain synthetic material
