Ainia discovers microorganisms that degrade the plastic more quickly
June 8, 2009
The first results show that certain microorganisms reduce up to 15% of the plastic material in two months, which "is to reduce the time of his demotion in more than 90 per cent with respect to its natural degradation", assured sources of the Institute.
According to experts, the plastic waste generated by the man takes an average of one hundred years to decompose. The objective of Ainia, added, is to get a degradation of plastic waste from 100 per cent in the shortest possible time.
Studies and analyses developed in Ainia have identified a series of micro-organisms for their metabolic capacity can degrade more quickly the waste of plastic than the natural process of decomposition in landfill.
