The aim is to explore the mechanisms of nucleación and propagation of cracks during the processes of tooling in hot of components for car
The project Zincobor evolves positively during his 6 first months of investigation
The project Zincobor, that initiated around the middle of 2012, will allow to explore the mechanisms of nucleación and propagation of cracks that take place during the processes of tooling in hot of components for the sector of the car, manufactured from steel to the boron and actively protected of the corrosion by coatings of basic Zinc.
During this initial phase, have characterised the coatings of base Zn selected by the members of the consortium in his condition “ace-delivered”, that is to say as they arrive of factory. This information is fundamental since it will allow to know the behaviour of the designated coatings regarding the learning of cracks after receiving diverse thermal sensors treatments and be subjected to complex solicitaciones thermal sensors, mechanical and tribológicas.
The Fundació CTM Centre Tecnològic, in addition to developing the paper of technical and economic coordinator of the project, has commissioned in this first phase, to realise and organise the planned tasks by part of all the members of the consortium. Simultaneously, the CTM has worked acutely in the manufacturing of samples with finishings of high quality that sue the investigations by means of electronic microscopy and nanoindentación. They have initiated successfully these tasks and, according to the managers of the centre, the results obtained are more than promising, taking into account the initial state in which it finds the project.
In this project participate eight pertaining researchers to three areas of the CTM: the Area of Technology of Materials, the Area of Simulation and Innovative Design and the Area of Processes of Conformed. It foresees finalise the project around the middle of 2015, with a total budget of one million and half of euros, funded by the European Union by means of the program RFCS, that subsidises projects of excellence researcher in the fields of the coal and the steel.
Explains also with the participation of four partners of four European countries different. The University of Kassel of Germany, the companies aceristas Voestalpine Austrian and Tata Steel Dutch, and the Fundació CTM Centre Tecnològic.
