In the framework of the BIEHM and on the occasion of the change of corporate name to Hexagon Metrology, S.A., MetalUnivers had an interview with Jordi Edo Abella, CEO of Hexagon Metrology, s.a.

I think that it is taking root the idea of seeing the dimensional control and quality control as essential for the competitiveness and differentiation added value, and not as a necessary evil that we must put in place by demand for third-party. The entry to the European Community of the countries of the East and the increasingly strong presence of emerging countries makes it impossible competitiveness by cost as it had happened so far. It is perhaps a little difficult to see, but the obsession with quality is the only way to long-term future.

The introduction of our equipment in factories of production introduces drastically this philosophy. The quality of the machine of measure will build the quality of the final product to the able to control the machine quality, will act in a way similar to an elastic band where the reference point is the quality and capacity of the machine. I believe with all my heart that there is no better investment for a company with a vision for the future.

My opinion is that the previous environment was of widespread pessimism, virtually no constructor is getting reach their sales forecasts. The truth is that, contrary to the overall indicators of growth, the Spanish industry are suffering a serious problem of competitiveness with sustained inflation differentials with regard to the EU that we are punishing seriously, with systematic destruction of employment, all of this together with the fever of the relocation. However, contrary to expectations, our results in the BIEMH have been very encouraging, we never managed to close as many operations in itself fair, in addition to take us a very good portfolio of opportunities. This perhaps somewhat reflects the theme of the first question.

Hexagon Metrology decided from the beginning to recover and give importance to traditional marks as Dea, Leitz, Brown & Sharpe Tesa, which is why each brand initially attempted to promote himself, his own commercial and service network. This inevitably brought some major conflicts which operated at the same time. All this coupled with the strategy of Hexagon grow through acquisitions of new brands as in the case of CE Johansson or Sheffield.

Seen from the perspective of the customer, what it wants are good products, recognized and reliable, competitive and with a strong and excellent service structure.

In this way we can still offer a greater variety of products, with the level of excellent support that always we tried to us to distinguish.

Of course. We currently have a staff of twenty-six people direct and six dedicated to metrology services hints, we have three fully equipped technical centres in Barcelona, Madrid and Elgoibar (Guipúzcoa), with more than ten MMC available to our customers for training activities and services of metrology. Our broad technical team is expert in all the mechanical and control systems. The applications team supports the Group softwares that are common to all brands. Hexagon Metrology S.A. is also certified company Enac to carry out calibrations under the ISO 17025 standard.

We are confident that in a very positive way, we put at your disposal a range of products that specifically better cover certain needs, with a level of high support that previously did not exist.

The strategy of Hexagon Metrology is clear, and will continue in this direction of growth through acquisitions and innovation. In recent times are appearing some alternative products that cover certain needs specific. It is the case of articulated arms is required where portability and low accuracy, the case of the trakers suitable for large volumes and portability, and the other technologies new such as photogrammetry, etc. It is possible that Hexagon Metrology can move to any of these segments of product, as well as continued growth in traditional segments.
