Interview with Stephen MacDonald. Director General of Christian Salvesen Gerposa
Could make us a brief presentation of the group in terms of its origin, history and activity?
Focus a little on Spain. When implants the company in our country and how is structured?
Based on the integration among the Christian Salvesen, incorporates a service to its portfolio of products that today is the differential product of further growth of our company and the Group's main activity: the industrial paletería or distribution of palletised goods.
In just 4 years, Christian Salvesen Gerposa has created an extensive network of connections for the Iberian Peninsula that allow the collection, distribution and delivery door to door of any palletised goods, from any point of Spain, France or Portugal in delivery record from 24 to 72 hours.
What are the main services offered by Gerposa for the process industry (chemical, petrochemical, gas...)?
This wide variety of standard services allows the needs logistical and transport of the majority of companies in all their activity cycles.
In addition, we have special services for specific needs, such as regular deliveries during the night, sequential services or emergencies, and dedicated solutions, i.e., developed tailored to the needs of our customers.
We are currently taking all kinds of services to our clients in the chemical sector, which are very different products that require specific needs: the transmittal of a pallet to a solution dedicated to vehicles intended exclusively for the client or the creation of stores to measure technology and staff of Christian Salvesen Gerposa.
Do with what infrastructure account currently company - fleet vehicles, antiquity, certifications... - and how many people work for Gerposa?
We could highlight the main strength of your company and which is different from the other companies of the sector?
Our differential advantage is derived from a wider range of services and greater coverage that our competition, allowing our customers to work with only one operator, which thus becomes a trusted partner that understands the customer's business and shares its objectives and strategies.
The service showing higher rates of growth is the industrial paletería, with cumulative monthly rates of more than 2 percent. In addition to the national standard service door to door, we have a network that connection any point of Spain, France and Portugal. We are able to distribute during the night, with deliveries always before 8 in the morning and distribute 7 days a week.
We offer a quality service through the use of the latest technologies in the sector. All merchandise that travels through our distribution network is identified with tags that have a bar code. This code is read in every operation of load and unloading, so that we have identified and registered in real time what pallets have been manipulated, where and by whom. We have a complete traceability of each pallet and we can, via the internet, provide information in real time to our customers about the location of your goods.
What are the main goods to transport and to give logistics service?
For example, to Columbian Carbon, producer of black smoke in Gajano (Cantabria), we have dedicated resources exclusively for them: a warehouse outsourced with 12 carretilleros 3-wire, 4 forklifts and 19 vans and two tractor units devoted exclusively. The availability of staff is consistent with the shift of production, from Monday to Saturday. In addition, we provide them the organizational work, giving an integral service of warehouse with manipulation of finished product that includes documentary records, packaging of the finished product, handling of the product, bulk of vehicles, cargo of palletized goods, cleaning of confined enclosures, rental of warehouses, etc.
Finally, is how it looks to the future of the sector of transport and logistics in general and that of your company in particular? Is it studying a plan or project for the future?
Two recent investment in facilities provided for the expansion of the logistics platform of San Román, in Álava, inaugurated last March, with more than 5,000 square meters, workshop, warehouse and laundry happened to be the location where the international transport of Christian Salvesen Gerposa is centralized. In San Andres de la Barca we have equipped and renovated a logistics platform of 7,500 square metres.
Our investment here for 2005 plans are putting in place a new Logistics Centre in Lanbarren (Guipúzcoa), one in Valencia and a possible extension of our storage capacity in Madrid.
