Intermodal transport, competitiveness and sustainability challenge

The Spanish Centre/Center of Logistics, in collaboration with Everis, organised/organized on 28 September, in the headquarters of the School of Industrial Engineers of Madrid the Day Challenges of the Transport Intermodal and Alternatives to the Conventional Transport by Road. Ángel Saint Segundo, vicedecano of the School of Industrial Engineers of Madrid, and José Estrada, general director of the CEL, went the attendants of inagurar this working time devoted to the transport intermodal. After them, José Francisco Vidal, consultor independent with a long path tied to the maritime transport of short distance, analysed/analyzed the relations between the operations intermodales of transport and the short was shipping.On the other hand, José Francisco Vidal, consultor independent with big experience in ‘short was shipping', analysed/analyzed the operations intermodales and this type of maritime transport of short distance. In his opinion, the ‘short was shipping' is a viable alternative in front of the congestion that present the terrestrial roads of communication in a lot of points of the European Union, to which add other elements like the increase of the costs and of the times in the transport by road and the internalización of external costs. By all this, the system of transport has to evolve to the comodalidad, with a better planning of the services of transport, a greater balance of the modal distribution, and a maritime transport without barriers in the continent and that tend to boost the cooperation between ports.

All the speakers participated in a panel discussion moderated by Ramon Garcia, director of innovation and projects of the Centre Spanish of logistics, which paid particular attention to the level of efficiency with other modes of transport other than road, profitability and traffic volumes.
