The Conference, a meeting point
Attentive to the evolution and needs of the logistics sector, both national and, especially in this Edition, international, Sil celebrated three new technical conferences.
The first one, dedicated to the 'consumption', had the participation of Umberto of Pretto, Secretary general of the International Road Transport Union (IRU), Alejandro Jara, director-general of the World Trade Organization (WTO), and Pere Pedrosa, President of Astic - IRU.
In second place was developed the first 'day of information systems for the Logistics', which responded to the concerns of the logistics sector in an economic environment that the technological capitalization of the companies can make big differences in competitiveness.
And finally, the Sil also hosted the first 'day BCL', organized by Barcelona Centre Logístic Catalonia and which was entitled ' port and airport, engines of activity '.
Enrique Lacalle wanted to also mean "success that have brought the whole of the technical conferences, which have had more participation than ever before".

V Awards Sil - 'Nit of the Logistics'
The Hall of the logistics included one more year its traditional awards ceremony. In this edition the award to the best national logistics entrepreneur was to Helmut Stetter, director general of DSV Spain, while the prize for the best enterprise logistics international fell in Guidi Grimaldi, President of the Grimaldi Group. As to the best national logistics company stood to ProLogis and, in the chapter on international, he emphasized the authority of the Panama channel (Panama). On the other hand, the Sil's journalism prize went to transport 21st while the jury's special award went to Cargómetro and the ports of General interest of Andalusia.
'Nit of the Logistics' assisted more than 1,000 executives, invited to the evening organized in the Garden of the Hotel Juan Carlos I in Barcelona.
A Sil by and for professionals
One of the highlights for the Organization of this year of the Sil has been achieving its main objective: "to be the most international exhibition of all concluded so far". And it seems that the large foreign business and institutional representation of 2009 has been key to reaffirm the Sil as true for the 'know-how' and benchmark business space. Countries with increased representation include Germany, Algeria, Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, Chile, China, Colombia, France, Italy, Japan, Holland, Hungary, Luxembourg, Morocco, Mexico, Russia, Switzerland, Panama, Portugal and Turkey.
The organization also stresses that the 11th edition of the Hall has also been "one of the largest spaces of Europe dedicated to the commercial exchange and knowledge", with an estimated 2.1 billion euros turnover.
In addition, Sil 2009 has made available to companies exhibiting and visiting a salon sectorizado in which different areas relating to logistics management have been represented systems of transport and logistics, infrastructure and real estate; storage, equipment and maintenance; and telematics, e-business, telecommunications, it solutions to get the world moving.
Panama, 'logistics platform of world class'
Enrique Lacalle opened the twelfth edition of the Sil International Symposium - the Economist, which this year focused the focus of the debate on Panama as a logistical platform multimodal par excellence of the Americas, under the heading 'Panama, a route to the world'.
The International Symposium was on this occasion on stage of the session devoted to Panama, guest country of the Hall, in which participated as speakers authorities as Severus Sousa, Deputy Minister of foreign trade of the Ministry of Commerce and industry; Amauri Castillo, Secretary general of the Superintendence of banks; Nilda Quijano p., general manager of the colon free zone; Roman Feoli, Assistant to the investor of the Agency in the area economic special Panamá-Pacífico; Fernán Mills, Vice President of the Office of corporate communication of the authority of the channel of Panama; Fernando Solorzano, administrator of the maritime authority of Panama; V. Orcila de Constable, Manager of the Tocumen International Airport; and Jaime Alvarez Price, director of Copa Airlines cargo.
In the opening ceremony, Lacalle pointed out that "Panama is a small great country to discover that it has great potential for investment", and, in reference to the same channel, stated that "it is the major reference of the country because there is not a public work in the world of these characteristics". Precisely one of the highlights of the twelfth edition of the Symposium was the presentation of the project of enlargement of the Panama channel, a channel that provides access to maritime 144 with destinations in over 80 countries and has a movement of cargo from 192 million tonnes a year.
In their interventions, various Panamanian representatives placed special emphasis on the benefits of the country to foreign investors. Foreign investment exceeds the billions of dollars with new industries as clean renewable energy generation, activities related to the enlargement of the Canal, construction, tourism, research and development of high technologies, reforestation and agro-industry, to name a few.
The Mediterranean Forum held its 7th Edition
For its part, the session 'The Mediterranean climbs on the bandwagon' served to put an the end to the seventh edition of the Forum. The recent opening up and liberalization of the market in rail transport, the creation of a Mediterranean zone of economic integration and the future form of public-private partnership, have focused the focus of this session.
Brazil also benefited from an own session in Sil 2009, where he presented the opportunities for investment in the sector of transport infrastructure in the area of the growth acceleration program (Cap). This meeting, which also showed the draft of the train of high speed River of Janeiro/Sao Paulo / Campinas, counted with the participation of Paulo Sérgio Oliveira Passos, Executive Secretary of the Ministry of transport of Brazil, Bernardo Figueiredo, director-general of ANNT - national agency of the ground transport, and José Francisco Das Neves, President of Velec - engineering, constructions and Ferrovías, S.A.
