The export of paper surpasses to the imports
The production of paper in Spain in 2012 (6.176.800 t) keeps in similar levels to the previous year (-0,4%), while in the group of the EU descends 1,8%, according to data of the Annual Report of the sector of the cellulose and the paper presented by Aspapel. Spain is the sixth producing elder European of paper and, inside this group leader, situates between which better are answering to the crisis, together with Sweden and Germany. By the contrary, the others three big producers of paper (Finland, Italy and France) saw to descend his production very above the average.
The production of cellulose increases some tenth (+0,2) situating in 1.980.500 t and comporting also better that the average of the EU (-0,5). The total turnover of the sector of the cellulose and the paper in 2012 is of 4.317 million euros, with a descent of 7% regarding the previous year.
Consumption and external trade
The inner consumption of paper registers in 2012 a descent of 4,2%, with more repercussion in the imports (-7,6%), that in the national production that attains to keep.
The exports of paper (2.957.000 t), continue (+0,1) around the historical record of 3 million tonnes as in the two exercises precedents. And for the first time the volume of export surpasses to the imports of paper.
Regarding the cellulose, the inner consumption (1.846.800 t) increases 4,3%. The exports of cellulose (1.173.200 t), in spite of descending (-4,7%) in equivalent proportion to the recovery of the inner market, suppose 59% of the production and follow surpassing to the imports.
First quarter 2013
The production of paper in the first quarter of 2013 keeps (-0,1%), and again with better behaviour that the average of the EU that it is -1,6%. The exports descend (-2,1%), but wins quota of inner market by the expense of a descent of 10% in the imports. The internal consumption goes down 4%.
In the cellulose the tendency is continuista with a descent of the production of 0,7% (similar to the half EU of -0,8%), also with gain of quota in the inner market. The internal consumption keeps (-0,5%) and so much the exports like the imports descend 3,9%.
The double of cellulose and the triple of paper with forestry certification
The paper is natural and renewable because it grows in the trees. But besides the paper does to grow the trees, because to manufacture paper plant and cultivate trees, that generate green employment, absorb CO2 and help to brake the climatic change, as it collects in the Update 2013 of the Memory of sectorial Sustainability presented by Aspapel.
- The plantations of trees for paper in Spain, occupy 465.000 hectares and employ to 22.225 workers (5.570 direct employments and 16.655 indirect), with data of 2012.
- These wooden crops for paper store 29,6 million tonnes of equivalent CO2 in data 2012, 8,3% more than the previous year.
- For the manufacture of paper in Spain use to the year 6.112.700 m3 wooden, of national origin in 80%, according to data of 2012. The wooden consumption, on line with the production of cellulose, registers a light descent of 0,2%.
Spain has of good climatic conditions and surface baldía for the crop of wooden fibre in plantations, what constitutes an opportunity for the development of a bioindustria of avant-garde: the bioindustria of the forestry.
The sector papelero, engaged with the forestry certification, works to promote the national wooden offer certified, what will allow that there is increasingly paper certified in the market, with a label that guarantees his origin of a plantation managed sosteniblemente.
Spectacular increase: with data of 2012 is certified already 32% of the production of cellulose of market and 22% of the production of paper (in front of 16% and to 7,7% respectively in 2011).
