especiales labores operativas, acudiendo a operaciones confinadas, potenciadas o más seguras, realizando una vigilancia extrema de la calidad del agua potable, resolviendo los retos planteados por el teletrabajo de los equipos humanos para contribuir a su mayor protección. En definitiva, organizando y ejecutando todas las tareas necesarias para garantizar el servicio a los centros hospitalarios o de atención de los afectados, a otros servicios esenciales y a todos los ciudadanos confinados. Tarea ingente, magnifica y responsablemente resuelta por los operadores de servicios –tanto públicos como privados– las empresas privadas que forman la cadena de valor de la actividad. Internacionalmente, pronto se identificó la presencia de material genético del virus en las aguas residuales, en simultáneo con la certeza de la ausencia de transmisibilidad de la pandemia por esa vía y la oportunidad de que su control se pudiera utilizar como indicador de seguimiento cualitativo y cuantitativo de la enfermedad en las ciudades. Inmediatamente, algunos operadores tanto públicos como privados y líderes del sector que venían trabajando con otros virus y en convenios con universidades y centros de investigación, orientaron la especializada actividad científico-técnica al virus causante de la COVID-19, lo que ha permitido aplicar las técnicas y el más avanzado conocimiento científico y aprender muchísimo para ayudar al sistema sanitario. Las redes de relación, basadas en la asociación, funcionaron perfectamente y se consiguió coordinar unas acciones muy útiles para “no dejar a nadie atrás” y ofrecer la experiencia mancomunada -Planes de Contingencia y recomendaciones sectoriales- a todos los operadores, con independencia de su tamaño. Se mantuvieron abiertos los canales de redes internacionales con nuestros colegas europeos y mundiales, lo que ha permitido contrastar y compartir las mejores experiencias. Y se ha coordinado con las autoridades de Sanidad y del MITERD. Y todo ello ante una situación económica preocupante que también podía afectar a la sostenibilidad de los operadores de los servicios. And there was also coordination with the health authorities and the Spanish Ministry for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge (MITERD). And all this took place within the context of a very worrying economic situation which also had the potential to affect the sustainability of water service providers. Monthly consumption of urban water at the most critical times decreased by over 8%, compared to the same period in the previous year, and by over 22% in tourist areas.
