EPS turnover of 291 million euros in 2002

The sector of the expanded polystyrene (EPS), also known as "styrofoam", invoiced last year about 300 million euros, of which 210 million correspond to companies processing and 90 producers of raw materials. Other data emerging from the information provided by the National Association of EPS (Anape), suggest that total production in Spain rose to 70.700 tons and about 1,500 people work in the trasformador sector. These data place Spain in fourth place in the ranquing of European countries with a greater production of EPS (combined container/packaging and construction), Germany, France and Italy. Total production in 2002 amounted to 28,054 tons, 39.7 per cent of the total, highlighting the sector of food with 9. 544t (34 per cent), of the household appliances/electronics of consumption/computer with 10. 977t (39 percent) and the sector of horticulture and gardening with 2, 561t (9%).
For its part, of the construction sector, which was allocated the 57.8 per cent of the total, emphasizes the application of plates and plates of thermal insulation, with 50 per cent, followed by the ceiling blocks and coffering (24 per cent) and 16 per cent used in various applications of construction.
