Wood: the material of the future in construction

The wood is attracting a growing interest among architects, decorators and designers as ideal material for the implementation of constructive elements and decoration. It is the material of the future, not only for its technical and aesthetic qualities, but because it is the only ecological material of construction itself. Their consumption contributes to reduce the emissions of CO₂ and climate change.

Linked to the first and second wood processing industries, Feim is home to twelve business associations. Altogether, he attends almost 200 small, large and medium-sized companies spread over all Spain. The sectors represented in Feim turnover is approximately EUR 3 billion, and generate around 25,000 jobs direct, the majority of high professional qualification.

For its part, the Association Spanish importers of wood, AEIM, integrates currently 165 individuals and companies, engaged in international trade in wood products: importing wholesalers of wood products and companies representatives of export firms in our country, sales offices, 'brokers' and other entities with an interest in international trade in wood products. Among its main objectives is the promotion of the responsible consumption of wood.

During 2007, the evolution of the production of parquet in Europe (countries FEP *) followed a positive trend. As a whole increased 2.5 per cent, reaching a volume of 100,3 million square metres, of which Spain generated a 10 per cent. By country, Germany consumed 18.5 per cent of the total EFF, followed by Spain with 16 per cent, France and Italy with 12 per cent to 11.1 per cent. The estimate of total consumption of parquet in Europe amounts to 120 million square meters, representing 5.6 per cent of all coverings of floors.
