The Irta celebrates a seminar on marketing of oils of high range that will have continuity

The past Thursday 17 April, the Subprograma of Olivicultura, Elaiotecnia and Dry Fruit of the Irta, of the Department of Agriculture of the Government of Catalonia, gave in his Centre of But of Bover (Constantí, Tarragona), the seminar ‘Base for the marketing of oils of high range', headed to professional of the producing companies oleícolas and operators interested in the direct commercialisation of oils of quality in markets gourmet or of export.

The commercialisation of oils ‘of high range' has positioned like an alternative to the market generalista of oil of virgin olive. Nevertheless, because of the level of saturation and low prices of the national market, these oils have to orient to the external market. These markets, generally, ask complementary information on the characteristics and origin of the oil, that goes further of the mere commercial classification, the country or the variety. This Seminar has contributed diverse information on the oil of virgin olive in his markets of origin, to use it in strategies of positioning of product 'of high range'.

The information contributed pretended to answer fundamental questions eat: Which are the correct criteria to choose an oil of high range? How verify the validity of an analysis? How interpret the chemical and sensory analyses to describe the product? Which are the basic systems of manufacturing of virgin oil? Which are the main varieties of olivo? How it cultivates the olivo in the distinct countries and how influences in the attributes of the oil? What are the polifenoles? Which is the biochemical base of the sensory attributes of the oil and until which point can be identified by a normal consumer? Which are the mechanisms of the “cata” that allow to identify an oil of high range and how explain it to the customer?

In the seminar participated representatives of 25 companies of the sector, pertinent of Catalonia, Aragon, Valencian Community and Andalucia, in addition to technicians of the Irta, Damm, and of Prodeca of the Council of Agriculture of the Government of Catalonia. Given the success achieved and that the assessment of the same by part of the participants has resulted very positive, the Irta poses realise future editions of the seminar.
