Certification PEFC: the reduction of risks in the wooden trade

PEFC Spain celebrated the past 13 February, in the frame of of the fair Fimma-Maderalia, the formative day ‘The reduction of risks in the trade of the wood. Certification PEFC', that had the participation of experts that spoke of the current regulation of the European Union in the trade of the wood, known also like Diligence Owed and the certification PEFC like tool that gives fulfillment to this regulation since it endorses the sustainable origin of the forestry products.

Alberto Romero, general secretary of the Spanish Association of the Trade and Industry of the Wood (Aeim), explained to the assistants that the development of the certification in Spain is quite remarkable and added figures in matter of wooden export in our country: 82% of the wood in Spain proceeds of zones of despicable risk by what the possibility that the origin was illegal is very small. On the other hand, 18% come from of zones of risk, mainly of Asia and Oceania. Marta Salvador, technical director of PEFC Spain explained that the system of certification PEFC already gave fulfillment to the regulation of the European Union in 2006 but nevertheless have applied changes in the system to adapt it even more to this rule.

To the ending of the day, the general secretary of PEFC Spain, Ana Belén Noriega, did delivery of the certificate of adhesion to the Network of Responsible Entities with the Forestry Sustainability to Carles Alberch, President of Aeim and to the members of his managerial board. This network has been created by PEFC Spain to work in group and reward to the entities that engage to develop a plan of green shopping for the promotion of the forestry products of local origin.

Likewise, the general secretary, accompanied of Roberto Becerra, general director of the zone this of Bureau Veritas, did delivery of the certificate PEFC in Chain of Custody to Sipwood, S.L., the first company certified of the Valencian Community of the 2014, specialised in manufacturing wooden sheets and his derivatives. Francisco Rodríguez, general director of Sipwood, appreciated to PEFC Spain the delivery of the certificate and signalled that they have bet by the certificate PEFC to give a value added to his product.

“The certification is very positive and gives to the companies a positioning in the market. The customer Is suing it and also the Public Administrations”, signalled Roberto Becerra. PEFC Spain has more than one thousand companies certified in Spain, of which 31% belong to the sector of the wood and the construction.
