Twenty ways to design a leg

This exhibition, curated by the Spanish designers Juli Capella and Quim Larrea, supposes the republising of the sample that 20 years ago already realizar with remarkable success in the breast of the International Fair of the Piece of furniture of Valencia (FIM) and that has recovered with reason, precisely, of the 50 edition of Fair Habitat Valencia, contest heir of the historical appointment of the piece of furniture.

The exhibition gathers the interpretation that of a leg of a table realizar twenty architects, creators and industrial designers of international reference. His names do not leave indifferent to anybody: Rum Plough, Ricardo Bofill, Michele of Lucchi, Jean Paul Gaultier, Giorgetto Giugiaro, Michael Grave, Ross Lovegrove, Josep Lluscá, Javier Marshal, Ingo Maurer, Alessandro Mendini, Rafael Moneo, Daniel Nebot, Francesc Petit, Borek Sipek, Ettore Sottsass, Philippe Starck, Óscar Tusquets, Ushida & Findlay and Victorio & Lucchino.
Each one of them and to indication of the commissioners Juli Capella and Quim Larrea designed a leg for a table of 90 cm. Of height. There were not previous indications and the designers had the maximum freedom to interpret the commission, so much from the conceptual point of view as of the materials.
In this way, each exposed design is totally only and approximates to the concept from a different perspective: Petit and Maurer from the eroticism; Of Lucchi from the recycling like a central subject; Starck centres in the public criticisms; Tusquet in the sensuality; Mendini resorts to the humour; Moneo to the poetry; Nebot the joy…
The exhibition ‘Legs' will situate in the prestigious Valencian Institute of Modern Art (Ivam) a building of new plant inaugurated in 1989 with original design of the Valencian architects Emilio Giménez and Carlos Saviours. It occupies a surface of 18.200 m2 and houses eight destined galleries to the payments of the museum and to temporary exhibitions. One of them, The Room of the Wall shows the foundations of the ancient mediaeval wall built in the second half of the 14th century.
The Ivam explains permanently with 10.500 works that illustrate the basic artistic demonstrations of the art of the 20th century. They form part of his payments act of Julio González, Ignacio Pinazo, Miquel Navarro as well as authors of the 20th century like Paul Klee, Francis Picabia, Frantisek Kupka, Chronic Team, Robert Rauschenberg, Constantin Brancusi, Robert Layer or Joan Fontcuberta.
