Domestic wine consumption down to 228 million litres during the first seven months

The panel of food consumption data, published by the Ministry of environment and Rural Environment and marine (MARM) and analyzed by the Observatory Spanish of the market in wine (OeMv), show that, during the first seven months of the year the greatest losses of drinking wine in Spanish households have been led by the still wines, both with PDO as without, while sparkling wines and cavas with PDO remain on the upside.
Overall, during this period of the year, the consumption of wine on the food channel has fallen by 5.1% in volume until the 228,2 million litres, and 4.7% in value, to 516,8 million litres.
Although all products evolve negatively with the exception of sparkling wines, during the first seven months of the year those most affected have been still wines. Having PDO declined 6.1% in value and by 5.1% in volume and still wines without PDO have fallen 6.7 per cent in value and by 5.6% in volume. As a result, these last are that bedevil most developments in consumption of still wines. However, it increases the consumption of sparkling and cellars, 4.8 per cent in value and 2.1% in volume, with a price average 2.6 per cent which rises to 4.81 EUR per liter.
In inter-annual terms, the overall situation also reflects a negative balance. Between August of 2010 and July this year, household consumption has fallen - 7.4% in value, to 1.034,9 million euros, and 5.1 per cent in volume until the 422,6 million litres, with declines widespread on all products.
