The MARM repeals the order which regulates the PGI 'Vineyards of Spain'
November 30, 2010
The indication geogràfica 'Vineyards of Spain' regulated and recognized wines entitled to the traditional mention 'vi de la terra' produced in the defined geographical area. From Jarc, and according to the sector, considered that the denomination was going to the detriment of the work developed by the designations of origin, which allow consumers discover the specific characteristics of the wine in each area of production, and to guarantee the organoleptic quality.
Four years ago, the Ministry of agriculture already issued an order that regulated this IGP, and already used from the sector for which the national court left him without effect. At the same time, since the European Union not recognized this IGP, as "do not regard the specific area of production criterion" essential to establish a new qualified name. Despite this, last year, the MARM returned to publish an order virtually unchanged but with an aggravating factor: in aquesta ocasió was processed on an urgent basis.
In the appeal that was submitted to the national court stressed that: "not be separating or the area of production of the wine that is embotellará under the name 'Vineyards of Spain', or the maximum per hectare yield as indicated by both the law on wine and the CMO." Moreover, the latter only allows to use the name of the country in single cases.
Today, Spanish wines have achieved great international acclaim. And this work is the result of the efforts carried out by the various C, that allow to identify specific qualities in each area of production and therefore the products obtained are diverse and cover a wide range of palates. With the PGI 'Spain vineyards' is it catalyse to all the wines under this rating, which is why the table wine would benefit from the prestige of protected wines, under denomination of origin, which would undermine its marketing and image. Thus, from Jarc are pleased by the announcement of the MARM that acknowledges the work carried out in recent months.
