First phase in March
Construction of the Park's southern Industrial Development, known as Expaciomérida, have begun in the plot chosen by the Junta de Extremadura for a new initiative that seeks the establishment of new companies in a strategic location. Work began at the end of last year, but heavy rains have slowed land movements.
Work has begun for the urbanization of the first phase, which includes the development of 49.3 hectares. The competition for the execution of these works was awarded last July to the companies Placonsa and roads and buildings for an amount of almost € 9.2 billion. Draft general budget of the autonomous region for 2010 raises investment over this exercise 13,78 million euros due to the remnant of the past year. In principle, the performance was expected to begin at the end of last summer. However, the necessary procedures for the award of contracts (also was carried out during the past year the Commission of technical assistance) and, especially, the expropriation of land required, have delayed the start of construction. As it appears the resolution which was launched last September the application of forced expropriation and urgent occupation of the property affected the development of the Industrial Park South of Extremadura, the forecast of the regional administration is carrying out the precommercialization of farms throughout the first half of 2010, to promote the implementation of the companies at the end of this year and its operationalization in the middle of the next. At the end of the first half of 2011 must be culminated the settlement of companies.
After the final impetus to the first phase, the forecasts of the Junta of Extremadura through that the rest of the action will proceed according to the perspective of demand. The budget of material performance estimated for the development of Expaciomérida is 72.3 million euros.
The initiative was launched in February 2006, when the extraordinary Council of the Junta de Extremadura commissioned to the society of Industrial development of Extremadura (Sofiex) promotion, management and construction of two industrial parks in strategic locations in the region. After finding two more appropriate locations, Mérida and Navalmoral de la Mata, were born two specific corporations, which launched the urban management of the chosen grounds in April 2007. In August 2008 was definitely adopted the planning of Expaciomérida under the figure of a project of Regional interest and opened the recruitment process of the work of urbanization, which today are already a reality.
