New intermodal Center of logistics activities of the Generalitat in Montblanc

The Government has taken a new step forward in the creation of a network of intermodal centres that enhance economic development to the length and breadth of the territory. Thus, Secretary for mobility and President of Cimalsa, Manel Nadal, together with the Mayor of Montblanc, Josep Andreu, presented last July a new intermodal Center project in the municipality, with the aim to become a reference for the business activity in the regions of the 'Camp de Tarragona'.
In this sense, its proponents have that the future Centre "will play a key role in the economic momentum with the creation of occupation and development of the whole of the comarca of the Conca de Barberà," at the same time consolidating the industrial positioning of the companies already established in the area.

Strategic location
Thus, a strategic location, has been planned by surrounded by road and rail corridor which will connect, as the broker of the Ebre Barcelona - Lleida - Madrid, the new corridor Reus - Montblanc - Lleida, the future autovía Reus - Montblanc - Tàrrega, the future Tarragona - Montblanc motorway - Lleida, or the AP-2 motorway.
The new intermodal Center will be used for logistics activities, domestic distribution and international, and clean industry, among others, and will have a space reserved for the supply of services and equipment for businesses such as offices, meeting rooms and training or catering and hospitality.
The enclosure is designed to combine business with respect for the environment and the environment, so that it will be built while maintaining aesthetic consistency with the territory in order to achieve an integration to the landscape. In this sense, will host new spaces for parkland and landscaped areas. In addition, it will incorporate advanced technology to ensure the safety and security of the facilities.
New railway terminal
In this sense, the terminal was designed with a length of 750 meters, according to the usual dimension of trains throughout the whole of Europe. Thus, the particularities of the design of the new terminal, will contribute significantly to improve connections by rail with the rest of European countries of undertakings established in the territory.
The railway terminal will connect with the railway line between Barcelona and Tarragona, Lleida, Zaragoza and Madrid.
Within the framework of the Strategic Plan 2008-2011 Cimalsa
The project of construction of a new intermodal Center in Montblanc is encouraged in the framework of the actions envisaged in the Strategic Plan of Cimalsa 2008-2011, which provides for the priority development of centers with rail intermodality linked to main lines of future for the transport of goods in various places in Catalonia. Thus, new facilities will be part of the network of intermodal logistics platform promoted by the Generalitat through Cimalsa, with the objective of facilitating the movement of goods as a driver for business competitiveness.
In addition to this performance, the Strategic Plan includes the consolidation of the Empordà Logis, located in the comarca of Alt Empordà, which is currently in phase of urbanization and has the terminal railway of Vilamalla, operational from the month of October. Furthermore, it envisages the creation of two more intermodal centres, one located in the Baix Penedès and the other in Baix Ebre, currently under study.
