Centre CISG, a step beyond the Metrology
The Department of Metrology is, therefore, a subsidiary branch of the Centre's activities and as such is integrated within the area of manufacture of prototypes. This area is devoted to the rapid generation of models physical termopolímeros, epoxy resins, doming resins and thermoplastics, allowing to validate both the aesthetic and ergonomic features of the subject of testing, inspections and approvals of the real conditions of use and manufacture. With this service are dramatically reduced the time and cost of product development.
The area of metrology acts as a public service aimed at the industrial world. According to its head, Jose Luis Tejedo, they attend some forty companies in sectors of the automotive, moulds and plastic injection. On the one hand, the Department carries out verification of pieces of standard geometry, and on the other hand also focuses on the digitization of surfaces or profiles. In addition to the area of metrology, the CIM Centre collaborates in projects at European level for the automation of production, where the Metrology can play an important role. These projects include one devoted to the automated inspection using vision computer whose objective is the measurement and documentation of parts in production line. It's a CIRIT project of the European Union. The objective of this project is to develop a programme of support to the qualitative inspection of vision by computer, implementing a set of modular tools and defining work methodologies.
To this end, will develop a set of differentiated modules which allow the integration of the inspection program with other systems or applications, like e.g. communication between applications through a communications module DDE, the creation of bookstores to access vision systems from another application (methodology DDL), access to data bases SQL (module for accessing relational databases).
In addition to this specific project, of which the reader can get information on the website of the Centre cim, this technology center goes one step further in what was meant by metrology and enter in the control of production processes. The production technologies, and automation of the production, advancing today in fields as diverse as the inquiry of the virtual factory, integration of product design and its control metrology or integration of metrology in the production process, and all these issues are fully more or less directly into the line of action of the Centre.
