Victor Escobar, Director General of Renishaw
At the beginning of the 1990s, there was still a significant percentage of companies when they purchased a coordinate measuring machine (MMC), most did so by laying than by conviction. They were their clients, usually in the automotive sector, where they were to take the step of creating a room of metrology, which on many occasions, the MMC were relegated to a mission to showcase of real utility.
To date, and no one questions the need to check the quality metrology of that which is machined. Dimensional control provides us with valuable information on the benefits and flaws in our manufacturing processes and guarantee the quality of our products. Computers have evolved a lot in performance, with software packages based on CAD models, measuring probes continuous 5-axis with excellent repeatability, optical systems with great capacity for acquisition of data in little time...
On the other hand, the use of the measuring probes and focused piece in machine tools as well as adjustment of tools, it is becoming increasingly more standardized, while a few years ago it was considered a luxury only justifiable for a few.
Developments in the sector: trends that are already detected and future trends.
The sector is clearly moving towards the improvement of the quality of products and the reduction of time to create such products.
The companies that have as goal progress and move forward in an increasingly competitive and complex environment are clearly betting on means to enable them to improve their productivity and the quality of the visits we have had during the BIEMH 2008 Edition so finds it.
