Bilbao will be on 15 and 16 June the meeting place for the participants of the training course organized by the technical Association for the management of waste and the environment (Ategrus). The course consists of three modules: General issues and regulations; characterization of hazardous waste and Reach; and treatment and waste management.
The entity has been organized this training on hazardous waste in response to the growing importance of the generation of this type of materials that in Europe, according to Ategrus, 40 million tons are generated per year - for a total of 1.3 billion tonnes of waste in general-. A figure which, according to the Association, "is that the proper management of these and the implementation of programmes to prevent its generation and promote reuse, recycling and energy recovery has become one of the priorities of the current sixth programme of Community action in the field of environment".
Ategrus also indicates that, according to estimates of the Ministry of the environment, Spain generates a 5.24 million annual tonnes of hazardous waste, of which 2.1 million are mining.
