Aiju employs low pressure plasma to improve painted of flexible polyolefins
June 2, 2010
Painting and decoration of polyolefin is a difficult process because of the difference of surface energy that occurs between the raw and solvents and paints. For this reason, the technological toy Institute (Aiju) has been optimized surface of polyolefin by low pressure plasma treatment, significantly improving the adherence of the decorative elements.
SUNY Martínez, Coordinator of the project, says: "the modification of the surface of polymers by means of this treatment has advantages over other mechanical or chemical surface treatments, because do not occur high calorific contributions, is fast, non-aggressive to the environment and allows the modification of complex geometry figures because they introduce in the reaction chamber where" "there is treatment of homogenous and controlled". For this reason, explains Martínez, "treatment with plasma has gained acceptance in industrial applications".
