Aiju and Caja Mediterráneo enables the manufacture of biodegradable toys

The Technological Institute of the Toy (Aiju), in collaboration with Social Works CAM, the Conselleria of Industry, Trade and Innovation and Impiva, has developed an innovative project that incorporates shell of almond to the plastic material for the manufacture of toys. The aim is to increase the biodegradable characteristics of the articles manufactured and, at the same time, provide new uses to natural waste produced in Mediterranean crops, as it is in this case the shell of almond.

According to statements of the Aiju “The incorporation of shells of almond, a renewable natural resource, to formulations of plastic materials can contribute to improve the environingingmental problems. Besides, they allow abaratar the cost of the final product since the approximate price of the shell of almond is roughly of 0,20/kg, whereas the price of the HDPE or of the PS is greater. At the same time, with this partial replacement provides him to the product a value added”.

These natural reinforcements ensure the recycling, since they decompose easily without presenting any type of toxic residue and can be deleted by processes of biodegradation. In addition to in the sector juguetero, these plastics with biodegradable qualities, can enter in the sectors of the construction, the car, pieces of furniture, decorative objects, children's playgrounds and in profiles of windows and doors.
