The ' Formula Student racing' from the University of Stuttgart runs with pieces produced at Walter
The 'GreenTeam' of the University of Stuttgart is one of the most successful teams of the electrical Formula of students, an international competition of students design. In 2011, the 'GreenTeam' really developed electric vehicle faster in acceleration of the world and is currently number three in the world rankings. The team is assisted by Walter , which contributes more than 50 pieces for this vehicle. The Walter project team is composed by trainees and is supported by several divisions of experts.
Specialist tools in Tübingen mainly produces parts for the chassis 'GreenTeam'. In order to be able to deliver many components quickly, Walter has created a project team consisting of ten apprentices who are preparing to be trainers of machines. Based on the different levels of design and sometimes complex components. In addition to the actual production, the team Walter is responsible for the acquisition of raw materials and their components. Trainees supported by the various divisions of experts from Walter, as Walter Multiply, Department of engineering, or the technological centre of Walter.
One of the major challenges of the project is the limited response time", says technical trainer of Walter Rainer Roßkopf. "All parts must be completed at beginning of April. And we have to work and produce a lot accurately even when you're pressed for time. Just a small mistake in the manufacture can affect the vehicle later".
The project works both self-reliance and teamwork of the future trainers of machines. Walter learners learn what is essential in the real world of engineering, i.e. the objectives-oriented planning, precise measurements, the precise machining of materials and the efficient management of the projects.

The ' Formula Student racing' is designed by international competition that takes place every year in which only teams of students can participate. Several categories of racing are held not only for vehicles with electric propulsion units, but also with internal combustion engines. The 'GreenTeam' of the University of Stuttgart will be at the starting line a race with electric-powered car for the fourth consecutive time. A new car is designed every season and all its components are manufactured from scratch. Last year, the 'GreenTeam' even entered the Guinness Book of Records being electric car faster in acceleration: from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.68 seconds.
But to reach the podium in a race, you not only need a fast car. The categories included are, among others, design, driving dynamic, inventive and entrepreneurial spirit. Due to that the demands are many and powerful, the 36 members of eleven different courses of study team met in order to cover as many areas as possible. The first race of the competition will be in July at Silverstone, England. In August, the ' Formula Student racing' will be in Hockenheim, Germany.
