Interview to Francisco J. Tudurí, general director of Mecos Iberian
Like distributor of solutions for the metallic deformation, which are the main machines more sued in these moments?
Because of the coyuntura current of the market, really there is not a concrete demand of new machinery. Lamentably they are many the companies that have ceased in his activity, by which himself that detects the apparition of a market of the used. At any rate and because of the situation mentioned, these machines are deriving mainly to external markets that have, at least, the sufficient potential to be able to invest in in good condition machinery but to prices much more economic. It treats of machinery with few years of work, fruit of the eases that find us to obtain banking financials and that a lot of customers purchased to the not contemplating the possibility of a situation of crisis so next, so strong and especially, durable.
In this case, Mecos has taken some determination in this regard?
In the summer of 2007 and after some interventions in United States, already valued a possible negative perspective of the markets in a near future. In effect, in the second half of 2008 truncated of a radical way and, although this year offered us some very positive numbers, because of the requests closed previously and to the inertia of the market, this stagnation was totally real.
In this case, the first determination that had to take was to value again the model that were following, continue paginating the sale of machinery of specific production of deformation or, on the other hand, reinforce the sections of machines for special processes in the companies, as well as of the tooling.
After an exhaustive assessment, and evaluating also the perspectives and forms to work of ours represented of machinery of deformation, took the determination to do without said line of machinery.
That is to say, a return to the ‘statu quo' previous and can offer all our potential to the service of our customers and even competition, advise and improve productions, reduction of costs and increase of quality, through our line of products and engineering.
What can contribute to the companies this type of machinery?
Understand that the companies of the sector of deformation, and create can extrapolate to other sectors, did not go to have precisely a problem typical of production, as the exigencias to this level, because of the decrease of requests, were not neither are the more acuciantes. By this reason our customers did not have almost needs to increase his production but yes to reduce so much the costs like the terms of delivery and offering greater quality. In definite, stand out of his competition.
The only way to achieve it is purchasing machinery that realise determinate or special functions, that allow to delete or at least diminish the human errors, also that it speed up said processes and, finally and create very important, that contribute a plus of quality.
But is important to know that when I refer me to this type of machinery do not have to include it in the aparatado of special; in a lot of cases only refer me to a type of machines that are sobradamente implemented in the most industrialised countries of Europe, Asia and United States.
Travel and visit continuously companies, situated in these geographic areas, to be able to learn and try transmit these knowledges to our customers. Of course in the cases where want , and I would say that in these moments in which it is forced to try export, the way to be able to compete is, at least, have the necessary technological elements and indispensable.
For example, one of the phases of production that see very important and that in Spain still are in phase of implantation, is all the concerning the Deburring and Polishing of sheet; still the final qualities offered can improve, and especially reduce the costs of exponential way, what carries us to be able to be competitive, was in our country or in the outside.
Another example has to be change the philosophies of some type of works, like insertions of bolts or nuts, that at present sueldan; but clear, a customer of the foreigner does not accept this type of process, by which have to try again instrument us with machines that allow us change the processes and adapt us to a reality that already is current.
And in reference to the another line that proposes, the knowledge in tooling, in what can help to the industry?
All know machines of metallic deformation as it can be a presses plegadora, a punzonadora or a machine of cut by laser. In reality it treats of machinery, nowadays of high technology, and that differentiate between them regarding the speeds that can reach, his level of sophistication to be able to realise some or other operations, the precision and, of course, the reliability of the good operation and a service post-sale adapted.
But the reality is that, independently that all this is very important, the election of the toolings and tools is paramount to be able to benefit of all the advantages and potential characteristics that offer us these machines.
Of the same way that in the F-1, the election of some determinate wheels, the incorporate a type of aileron, the knowledge of the circuit and other a lot of factors that are not inherent to the own engine, allow that the performances are more or less efficient. And why no, also it can us cost the commonplace “A Ferrari can not instrument with wooden wheels”.
Then, how it can the industry improve his processes?
In our case, have a lot of customers to which know well, and they to us; I refer me to that, in the first place by a relation in the years and besides, of continuous way, was through our technicians as through and-couriersings, web, youtube or social channels, keep them documented of all the novelties in Tooling that go presenting, with the collaboration of our departments of Investigation and Engineering of Processes.
On the other hand, to the customers with which still do not have a narrow relation, want to propose them an audits of his processes, visiting the factory, analyse his means of production and the type of product that realise. Of this way can study solutions and propose the improvements that believe convenient to increase the efficiency, reach an optimum quality and reduce the processes of manufacture.
Can give us some examples of how improve and increase the production?
To start with, try, through personalised seminars, give a series of important councils for the conservation and maintenance of his machines and his tools. Then and in function of the product, offer tools, that although the list is interminable, can quote some example: Tooling for desbarbar during the process of punzonado, deleting back operations; tooling to mark by recorded or with ink indeleble to mark the trazabilidad or destination of the product; toolings of fast change in punzonadora; also you tie up automatic for plegadora and to be able to diminish drastically Set-Up and a lot of more.
To which industries is more focused the range of machines and toolings of Mecos?
In general to all the industry of the metal, and between a lot of products, the devoted to the manufacture of elevators, metallic and urban equipment, aeronautical sector component manufacturing sector component manufacturing, air conditioned, the hospitality industry and manufacture with stainless in general, electronic, and of course to the skilled companies in outsourcing of metallic pieces.
In general, which solutions requires the sector of the deformation in these moments?
Try apply the concepts that have analysed previously, among others many, as of course this interview does not allow us value them in all his dimension. And for this is necessary a narrow collaboration between the companies of production and a company of our characteristics; not having fear to benefit of our experience and, be opened to study objective punto; in definite, use all the arms near at hand to be able to improve the quality, reduce the costs and implement new systems and solutions; and of this way stand out between the competition.
In which situation finds the Spanish market in these moments? And the international?
Lamentably is not the desirable but the indicators announce, if no in brief himself in the short term, a light mejoría. In a near future, will find us with a new opening of average and small companies, inheritance of the enclosures become in these times happened of other bigger. In these moments exist a lot of projects of creation, people with wide knowledges in the sector of the metallic deformation, with many win and technical potential more than sufficient, but that by circumstances, mainly economic, do not find still the way to be able to give exit to said project. It does not fit doubt that when the Government and the Bank of Spain can guarantee in greater measure to the Banking, and like this can diminish his risk crediticio, this last will open the courses to be able to give credits to the current companies and of new creation. Have the hope that like this suceda, with the only exception to my wish, of the term in that it occur. Expect all that it was the before possible.
To international level, the situation is, in comparison, quite better. There are countries in Europe with a growth, although no optimum, yes sustained, that allows encarar the future and the investments of another way.
In Asia, although in some very powerful countries the GDP has reduced , keeps on being exceptional.
And to finalise, Latin America, market where precisely are presenting our products and working very strong from 3 years ago. In general, the situation is very good, with work and a lot of expectations. Only with the internal consumption already can face big projects. They are countries where still there is a lot that do. And this think that it is very important so that Spain, by our similarity of language and culture, take advantage of it and feels bows of cooperation in this area.
