Schäfer theft-Pick: fully automatic picking cell
May 11, 2010
So far attempts to reduce costs and simplify the preparation of orders through the automation of the picking had failed due to lack of flexibility of image processing. The specialist for intralogistics, SSI Schäfer, has solved this problem and has developed the Pick theft, which does the job so far was left in the hands of the people.
Cell Imaging of the system identifies the position of the goods at less than 1 second to prepare and directs the universal picking robot. Then, in accordance with the purchase order, the products are carefully prepared in a few seconds in the corresponding container without programming individual characteristics and appearance of articles. In this sense, depending on the structure of the request, they can be processed simultaneously between 10 and 20 orders.
Theft-Pick opens up completely new possibilities in intralogistics. That includes much more than the pure increase in the degree of automation of the picking stations. Through the combination of low costs and the great flexibility of the system, it can illustrate completely new approaches in a cost-effective manner. Theft-Pick, an installation of distribution is also operating profitably during the night and thus get a return on investment very different for the installation. Another approach is the application of theft-Pick in the reverse logistics. It is a very complicated and costly process especially in the sale by mail.
In addition, is a particularly economic system whose investment costs are considerably lower than the conventional stations 'goods to man', offering much greater performance of picking. Its simple structure combined with highly reliable and flexible image processing facilitates an implementation underway without effort and an extraordinary return on investment.
