Ainia works in the integrated production of biodiesel and biogas from agro-food waste
June 12, 2009
The project, which has a budget that exceeds 1.4 million euros of which 50 per cent come from the programme Life + EC, has a duration of three years and adds the experiences, knowledge and potential of four agents: Ainia technology centre, Cidaut, Bionorte and Biogas Fuel Cell.
Integral B just begin. Its objective is to analyze the energy potential of vegetable oils (or fried) and remains of food generated by the food chain (agriculture and livestock, industries of transformation of food, fruit and vegetables, distribution, catering, catering, households, etc.).
The oils will be transformed into biodiesel through Transesterification (process generated by a chemical reaction necessary to produce biodiesel from vegetable oils or animal fats), while the remains of food of animal or vegetable origin are anaerobically digested (fermented) for biogas tothrough a co-generación engine, it will be transformed into heat and electricity.
