Environment implements the selective collection of packaging in the estadio Manuel Ruiz de Lopera

The Ministry of environment of the Junta de Andalucía, Ecoembes, Real Betis Balompié and the Andalusian Federation of municipalities and provinces (FAMP) launched selective waste collection of light packaging (plastic containers, cans and briks) in the estadio Manuel Ruiz de Lopera Wednesday24 January, on the occasion of the celebration of the Party of National Football League who played for Real Betis and FC Barcelona.

This initiative is part of a pioneering experience in Spain in sporting events and that gets underway for the first time in Andalusia, with the participation of the Andalusian first division football teams. This campaign aims to educate fans to attend the Stadium on the importance of this type of waste recycling, explaining the great benefits of this practice as the reduction in the consumption of natural resources, energy saving and reduction of pollution.

For the recovery of the waste of plastic containers, cans and briks generated during the course of the games for Real Betis, settled a total of 83 yellow containers at strategic points in the stadium, next to the bars and entrance and exit doors, with the aim of facilitating the collection of these containers.

To communicate the launch of the initiative, before the start of the match between Real Betis and FC Barcelona, a team of 8 monitors and environmental educators, disguised as container and with the characteristic colours yellow and blue, are commissioned encourages the public before the game and during the break, when they held a contest with the participation of members of the public. In addition, divided 51,000 calendars with campaign motifs among all fans attending the match.

The framework agreement signed between the Board of Andalusia and Ecoembes, which has been renewed in December 2002 for a period of 5 years, it contributes to the extension and continuous renewal of the Andalusian system of selective collection. Currently, all the Andalusians can participate in the selective collection of light packaging (plastic containers, cans and briks) - through the yellow container - and in the selective collection of cardboard and paper - thanks to the blue container - containers. The advance in the recycling of packaging, paper and paperboard has been consolidated during 2006 allowing more than 44% of rate of recycling.

At the end of 2006, the selective collection of light packaging (plastic containers, cans and briks) yellow container in Andalusia was 6.9 kg/capita/year, 11 percent more than in 2005, and respect to carton and paper figure amounts to 12.1 kg/inhabitant/yeara 5.5% increase over the last year. Environment has been working on improving the collection and treatment of waste in Andalusia by the Territorial Director Plan of management of urban waste in Andalusia, in development as of 2008, and that this year will have an investment of € 39,72 million.
