SSI Schäfer builds a large distribution center for Walgreens
The construction project, which covers approximately 70,000 m2, and whose objective is part of the supply of all pharmacies in the Walgreens chain in the southeastern part of the United States.UU., began in March of 2005.
The ship is located in the Anderson County, South Carolina (925,000 m3), and has over 500,000 locations for the storage of pallets and containers.
Walgreens has awarded this ambitious project to SSI Schäfer, acting as general contractor in the completion of the installation. SSI Schäfer is a business group of renowned worldwide as a specialist in integrated solutions for intralogistics, with presence in 53 countries and more than 8,000 workers, covering all fields of the sector from boxes and containers, shelving systems, systems of automated or manual order, high-performance, self-supporting and mini warehouse picking - picking load served by racking, to planning and implementation of logistics software and management projects.
Future distribution center consists mainly of the installation of a system of control flow of material, a total of 43 fully automated racking, a system of preparation of orders stretching over 15 km, an automatic warehouse for pallets, and more than 100 horizontal carousels system SCS (System of preparation of orders for high-performance of SSI Schäfer, capable of yields of 1000 picks per hour per person).
The installation will take place in a short period of time and involves the opening of the Center for February 2007, date which provides for the recruitment of about 450 people at the Centre of distribution.
These people, together with the high level of automation, will allow the supply to approximately 700 pharmaceutical megastores in the southeastern part of the United States.UU.
