With a usable area of about 100,000 m2 the new Logistics Centre is one of the largest centers of distribution of Eastern Europe
SSI Schaefer performed the new logistics center of JYSK
The specialist for intralogistics SSI Schaefer has made one of Eastern Europe's largest logistics centers for JYSK furniture wholesaler. Nearly 170,000 locations pallets a concept of Intelligent material flow as well as the combination of technology of modern automation and manual processes thanks to a system of management of warehouse designed optimally.
In the new distribution center put into service by the Danish furniture merchant JYSK Nordic A/S in Radomsko, about 100 km north of Katowice, up to 900 palespor time at the same time both at the reception and goods can be processed. "However, this volume of shipment of goods is designed for medium-and long-term growth," explains Jacek Przerwa, director technical and logistics centre in Radomsko JYSK systems. "Currently the performance reaches a 50 to 60% of the possibilities - with enormous growth rates-." The new central warehouse serves for supply throughout Central and Eastern Europe. In addition it should lay the groundwork to supply markets in Russia and China.
In the spring of 2008 the Danish furniture manufacturer decision-making bodies began planning a central logistics centre in Poland. Objective: the concentration of Polish stores, increasing the performance of step as well as capacity-building for expansion into new markets. JYSK decided to adapt the manual warehouse located in Radomsko, a location conveniently located, the future through its expansion and automation requirements. SSI Schaefer was commissioned as general contractor for design the logistics concept and put into practice the development and construction of the project turnkey.
With an area of nearly 100,000 square meters the new Logistics Centre is one of the largest centers of distribution of Eastern Europe. On the one hand, it had to integrate the existing architectural complex of the old warehouse with a surface of about 41,000 square meters. On the other hand, it was necessary to design the design of the installation, the flows of materials and automation components for a capacity of up to four new stores of high altitude with a 350,000 locations of pallets. In addition, the spacious halls of the complex of ships surface should be available as provision for the picking surface (mostly) manual as well as for the grouping of orders. The realization took place in several operations. Firstly, expanded three warehouse and ships preparation of already existing orders with an area of 13.000 m² each one formerly served as stores compact by adding an additional ship and a building of Hall. Through the concept of material flow in a simulation project was the separation of flows of freight forwarding and reception installing 25 new docks for receipt of goods in the back of the building. Also two further plants to a height of 5 and 10 meters were installed in the building of Hall. In this way the lower floor of the ship can be used for storage in the soil, the picking of large, bulky items, as well as for processing the receipt and goods. On the ground floor are also the palletizing of goods packed in boxes, control and, if necessary, the replacement of the empty pallets. "Thanks to the installation and distribution of new quays, the consequent separation of flows of materials and installation automation have doubled speed in the processing of receipt and dispatch of goods," says Mr. Przerwa.
In parallel work in high-rise warehouses - began initially in two of four planned stores. The remaining two are included in the layout of the installation so that they can be constructed quickly and easily integrated into the technology of the installation in case you need them.
The two new intermediate plants on four ships of Hall offer enough space for the installation of the conveyor system continuous distribution that serves to store and withdrawn goods in and high-rise warehouse without affecting the processes carried out on the ground floor. According to the concept of flow of goods strictly separated, the first floor serves for the first high-rise warehouse, the second floor serves for the second store. The heart of the installation is the electrovia of pallets in both upper floors used to be all automated intra-firm shipments as well as management and service of warehouses of high altitude in the central warehouse of JYSK.
In 24 halls of high-rise warehouses, mostly heavy and low turnover as well as items of mass consumption items are stored. Due to the wide range of items with 5,000 different products, all continuous transport system as well as transfer locations and the stacker cranes in the four halls of the second high-rise warehouse are designed for the transport of large pallets with measures up to 1,200 x 2,400 mm. Already only for the initial equipment of the SSI Schaefer installation supplied 7,000 platforms of this type for storage of furniture and large packs.
