Harvest of record olive in the Denomination of Origin ‘Sierra Mágina'

Like result the official figure of production has been of 219.500 tonnes of olive, which supposes almost 10% more than the record of the campaign 11/12, and surpasses in more than four times the previous harvest 12/13, where hardly reached the 50.000 tonnes of olive. In this sense, the rain of the months of December and January has been a key factor, since it has allowed that an increase of the weight of the fruit and a recovery of the olive grove affected by the drought of the autumn. However, the balance of oil produced is of 48.200 tonnes, very similar to the harvest 11/12, and this explains by a lower performance, of 21,95%, almost two inferior points to the harvest referred.
Jesús Subtle, manager of the Denomination of Origin has aimed that “the balance that do from the Regulatory Council is positive, regarding that this harvest of olive has supposed an increase of the activity and in the generation of employment in the municipalities of our region, and an even greater effort for achieving a production of extra virgin more than sufficient for the increasing demand of the marks inscribed, which expect that the price of the oil, especially the extra virgin, attain recompensar the effort realizar from the olivareros until the almazaras to obtain a product of the best quality”. For this, will continue with the activities of divulging and promotion of the quality of these oils, “that has carried them to participate in the contests agroalimentarios more important of the year, in addition to his bet for tying the product to the gastronomy”, has added.
