The IEC accredited openSafety of B & R as an international standard
August 30, 2010
Because openSafety is independent of the used bus, it can be used over any field or industrial Ethernet protocol bus. Already in the last edition of the fair 2010 HMI, openSafety was introduced on some of the most widely used industrial Ethernet protocols, specifically on Sercos III, Modbus TCP and EtherNet/IP, Powerlink. It is the first time that a system of distinct from Powerlink industrial Ethernet users have a complete, fully certified and open solution. Also openSafety has been certified by TÜV Rheinland and TÜV Süd for applications that meet category SIL 3.
"End customers demanded for years a uniform solution and does not make them dependent on a single manufacturer." "Now allows openSafety, in addition to these expectations, to increase productivity, which is not possible to achieve with other protocols", says Stefan Schoenegger, director of the Open Automation unit of B & R.
