Purchase of raw materials prices rose during 2002

The study presents the evolution of prices of more than 500 commodities and purchases products, grouped in different industrial sectors and services
The evolution of the prices of the different industrial sectors and services allows to obtain the index of purchase prices (IPCO) which indicates the variation of the set of prices of raw materials and products for purchase at Spain.
The A.E.R.C.E. index of purchase prices of raw materials and products purchase reached the value of 100.40-1-1-2003. This represents an increase of the average prices of raw materials during the 4th quarter of 2002 of a + 0.30%.
The variation from 1-1-2002 indicates that the purchase prices of raw materials and products of industrial enterprises and services purchase have increased during the year 2002 in a 0.4 per cent.
In the 4th quarter of 2002, stand out because of their inflationary sectors as the construction (+ 2.90%), hotel and catering (+ 1.33%), the food industry (+ 2.36), Office material (+ 1.31%) and the sector of maintenance, security and General Services (+ 1.40%), among others.
On the other hand, more deflationary sectors include that of materials and electronics, with a sharp drop in their prices of the order of the (- 4.32%). On the other hand, ferrous metals sector has been one of the more deflationary sectors this quarter (- 2.06 per cent) but, despite this adjustment downward of prices, this sector continues to be one that presents a high index of prices (mainly due to the high price of steel and its derivatives).
The forecast calculated for 1-4-03 is 100.77. I.e., expected a continuation and even activation of the inflationary process in the prices of raw materials and price of purchase, the order of the + 0.37%.
Over the past year 2002, prices have remained an inflationary trend which, with the exception of the second quarter of the year, has increased progressively quarter to quarter.
The forecast for the 2003 confirms this upward trend in the rate of growth of prices, which for the moment does not tend to send, but it can even be increased.
