These bulletins of quarterly periodicity, like the rest of the elaborated by the OEPM, will offer a punctual information, schematic and of fast reading on a selection of the last applications of patents biotecnológicas published in the relative world to four lines of investigation in health (nervous system, immune system, diabetes and degeneration macular). Also they will include brief news on activities realizar by the OEPM that can result of interest to the users.
This collaboration no only will allow that the companies of the sector can realizar an exercise of technological surveillance to world-wide level to other companies of biotechnology, but also contribute to his diffusion and use.
The patents that collect these bulletins are only Spanish and PCTs. The application of patent transacted in virtue of the Treaty of Cooperation of Patents (PCT) allows to request protection for an invention simultaneously in a big number of countries (138 countries in 2008) by means of the presentation of an application of international “patent”.
The advantage of the procedure PCT is that it facilitates the processing of the applications when said protection wishes obtain in several countries, as an only application produces the same effects that if said application had been presented in each one of the countries that form part of the Treaty.
In each quarterly bulletin collects a number limited of patents, some 200, and of the four areas of health mentioned. Asebio Realizar a survey between his partners to determine the areas of greater interest to be included in the bulletin. With the aim to do the accessible bulletin, chose the four areas mentioned, since it obtained a number of handy patents, although no descarta that in a future include other areas like the oncológica with a different format that allow the coverage of a greater number of patents.
In addition to the Bulletin of Technological Surveillance, Asebio and the OEPM will cooperate in the organisation of days to give to know the system of protection of the patent rights in his diverse forms, the services of technological information that offers the OEPM and the mechanisms of protection of the results of investigation and technological development.
In accordance with the data published in the last four years, the number of applications of patents in the sector biotecnológico experiences a clearly positive tendency with a growth of 146,3%. This self-evident evolution no only that the sector biotecnológico is a sector in peak but besides the importance that this concedes him to the patent rights like road to recover the investment.
