The emotional state of pigs, greyhounds and podencos
19 September 2012
Researchers of the IRTA, of the Department of Agriculture of the Government of Catalonia, go to study how the emotional state of the pig affects to his welfare and, in consequence, to the quality of his meat. A pig malhumorado or tensionado will finish in a dish that will not give satisfaction to the commensal, the one who will go out of the restaurant cursing his election between so much suculencia, will go back to the work and to his home and will transmit his unpleasant experience with the pig between his mates and familiar, those who will add to the protest and will say things as “no longer there are pigs like the ones of before”. It is curious because we know that the animal welfare is a concept that includes so much the physical health like mental of the animal, and although they exist indicators on the comfort, the hunger, the health or the injuries that can suffer an animal, still are missing for developing measures on the emotional state of the animals of farm. We know also that this is atribuible to the human, whose similarities with the pig are every time greater. And neither we go to say that it do not attend to these questions, but, the truth, in a Spain depressesed, with the citizens in emotional decline, does not seem that they are working too much the subjects of the spirit, neither between unemployed, neither between employees with the most unsure future of the last times… if it is that there was future in the past. According to the specialists of the Spanish Association of Specialists in Medicine of the Work (AEEMT) “the uncertainty about the future will do that the stress in the work was the epidemic of the next decade”. A recent study signals that until 62% of the Spanish workers affirms to be more estresado that the past year.
In front of this panorama appreciate initiatives like the one of Irún of this month of September to relieve the soul of the mortal whose meats are taut. This Gipuzkoan place has received the fair of the cannabis bigger of Europe. Always we had led the movement of the paella bigger of the world, the longest stuffing of Europe or the club of football that more spends, but up to now had resisted us the sector of the Grow. Initiated and no initiated, professional and amateur, all found his gap in a fair in which so much the 200 display units like the numerous days approached the happiness and the smile to a human society whose welfare, as the one of the society sow, has to be reviewed.
Leave us, friends of the IRTA, say you something, even to risk to participate in this party without invitation. All want to that the pigs are happy, but do not shelve, please, to the greyhounds and to the podencos. Because that run his to hunt to the rabbits, this threat to our model of convivencia only denotes his unhappiness and dissatisfaction. Cuán Well would be pigs, greyhounds and podencos in the fair of the Grow looking for this smile that the life denies them, but the grass provides them!
