By regions, the exports of Valencian Community, Andalucia and Murcia, registered increases in volume and value
Positive evolution of the Spanish export of fruit and vegetables in the first quarter

The Spanish export of fruit and vegetables in the first quarter of 2012 increased 3% in volume and 5% in value in regard to the same period of the previous year, totalizando 3,2 million tonnes and 2.949 million euros respectively, according to the up to date data until March by the Department of Customs and Special Taxles, processed by Fepex.
The fruit have registered a greater growth that the vegetables. The export of fruit until March of the year 2012 increased 6% in volume totalizando 1,7 million tonnes and 5% in value rising to 1.400 million euros. After the citrus fruit, the main fruit exported in this period, stands out the strawberry, whose exports increased 23% in volume, rising to 94.114 tonnes and 16% in value, totalizando 215 million euros.
The export of vegetables in the first quarter of the year 2012 stabilised in volume with 1,5 million tonnes (-0,2%) and grew 5% in value, totalizando 1.549 million euros. The main vegetables exported were tomato with 398 million euros (+3%), pepper with 264 million euros (+1,5%) and lettuce with 251 million euros (+13%).

By regions, the exports of Valencian Community, Andalucia and Murcia, registered increases in volume and value. The export of the Valencian Community situated in 1,36 million tonnes, 5% more than in the same period of 2011, by value of 1.052 million euros, 1% more. The export of Andalucia rose to 984.993 tonnes (+4%) by value of 1.162 million euros (+11%) and the one of Murcia situated in 585.740 tonnes (+3%) by value of 485 million euros (+6%).
By markets of destination, the EU represents 93,5% of the Spanish export. Germany, France, United Kingdom and Low Countries hoard 65% of the total exported to all the world. The sendings to Germany situated in 694 million euros, 2% more than in the same period of the previous year and to France increased 9%, totalizando 541,5 million euros (+9%). The exports to United Kingdom totalizaron 373 million euros, the same figure that in the previous period and to Low Countries increased 4%, situating in 292 million euros. It stands out the growth of 15% of the export to non-EU countries, rising to 209,5 million euros.

The import of January to March of 2012 situated in 606.101 tonnes (+0,2%) by a value of 338 million tonnes (-16%). The import of vegetables totalizó 339.353 tonnes (-8%) by a value of 133 million euros (-33%) and the one of fruit situated in 266.748 tonnes by a value of 205 million euros (+1%).
For Fepex, the positive evolution of the export of fruit and vegetables in the first quarter of 2012 has because of the good behaviour of some of the traditional markets like France and to the strong growth of destinations more recent like Russia, that absorbed fruit and vegetables by value of 57,4 million euros, 49% of increase in regard to the same period of the previous year.
