The international Association of Producers of Garlic integrates in the FEPEX

The National Association of Producers and Trading companies of Garlic, ANPCA, has agreed his integration in the Spanish Federation of Associations of Exporting Producers of Fruit, Vegetables, Flores and Alive Plants, FEPEX, with the end to improve the defence of the interests of his associated in the frame of a federation with wide national and international presence.

The surface of crop of garlic in Spain scendió to 22.741 has and the production was of 162.833 tonnes, according to the data consolidated more recent of the Ministry of Agriculture. Castile-La Mancha is the Autonomous Community with greater surface devoted to the garlic, with 10.119 has, followed of Andalucia, with 7.311 has and Castile and Leon, with 2.039has.
Regarding the exports, rose to 60.554 tonnes in 2003, 5% more than in the year 2002. In value, the exports of garlic rose to 77,6 million euros, 18% less than in 2002.
The sector of the garlic, according to words of the president of the ANPCA, Jesús Requena, shares challenges of future of the already represented sectors in FEPEX and, in this sense, the Federation already is working in appearances like the competition of ´third countries, the improvement of the quality, the investigation, etc.
