The proposal for compensation of the EC to the fruit and vegetable sector is still insufficient to Fepex
June 9, 2011
Fepex, proposal "improved" announced yesterday by the European Commissioner for agriculture, is not aid, but a compensation for the damage infringed to the entire sector and is not enough because it continues to exclude the generality of the fruit and vegetable sector affected by the crisis. The proposal limits the Community awards to five vegetables: cucumber, peppers, tomatoes, lettuce and Courgette to withdrawals between May 26 and June 30. Does not provide for compensation or for any other product or by the widespread collapse of markets that has affected all productions, or for damage to the image of quality and safety.
Fepex considers that compensation should cover all affected products and all the types of damage caused by the sector; Therefore, Fepex continues to call for the Spanish Government that it demands to the European Commission before the Court of Justice of the EU not assume 100% of the damage done to this sector.
