Interview with Joaquín Rey, President of the Association '5 a day'
What are the objectives of the Association?
The association 5 to the day is a plural association that has like aim prioritario spread a message of consumption quantified to the society, so that it know what has to consume. The World Health Organisation, the scientific Committee of the association and the experts in feeding, recommend a consumption of five rations of fruit and daily vegetables: 3 of fruit and two of vegetable, to be able to be one of them in crude.
Our aim is to inform to the consumer that has to eat 625 grams –125 grams by ration–. We direct us, especially, to the boys like consumer of future.
What kind of activities are carried out to achieve its objectives?
We are obviously all fairs, because we not only believe that the primary sector is the main involved but also the staff that carries the fruit, which makes greenhouses, etc. They are all within the sector and should help to disseminate their consumption. We are present in more than 1,500 schools nationwide.
One of the most ambitious of the last general Assembly of members as a mandate to the Board of Directors, was to have regional associations that have greater impact, greater return on the activity and greater influence on the institutions, because power plants are not concerned.
Just create and set up the first regional Board in Catalonia, with the three ministries - health, education and agriculture - the message of health and consumption of 5 fruits and vegetables per day are being 900 schools throughout its territory.
What is the role of the Association in Fruit Attraction?
We support our partners, we inform you to anyone who wants to know what is the activity of five a day and to professionals in the sector. What we showed in this fair is that we are active and we are working for and by the sector.
What are the challenges of the partnership?
I think that 5 a day is the only absolutely aseptic message which includes all of the fruits and we understand that it is the umbrella which have to be all advocacy campaigns.
