Descent of the consumption of fruit and vegetables in 2013 in 0,4% and increase of the cost in 4,4%

By groups of products, the consumption of cool fruit descended in 2013 2,2%, standing out the strong falls of apple (-7,2%), Mandarin (-8,6%) and pear (-14%) and the lower falls of melon (-3%) and watermelon (-0,1%). In the contrary side stood out the increase of the consumption of cherry (+18%), strawberry (+4,9%) and grape (+4,2%). The main fruit consumed in the homes are orange, apple, melon and watermelon.
In vegetables, the consumption in the homes grew 1,8%, situating in 2.924 million kilos, standing out the growth of green beans (+8,3%), courgettes (+5,6%) and onions (+4,1%). The most consumed vegetable was the tomato, followed of onion and pepper. The consumption of tomato in the homes situated in 689 million kilos (+0,7%), the one of onion with 359 million kilos (+4,1%) and the one of pepper rose to 234 million kilos (+1%).
The fruit and vegetables are, inside all the feeding in the home, those that greater volume occupy in the market basket, whereas the meat is the one who concentrates greater budget, as it exposed the minister of Agriculture. The fruit and vegetables represented in 2013 28,3% of the total bought in the homes. The fruit represented 15,2% of the total volume bought and the vegetables and potato represent 13,1% of the total.
