According to the Floriculture Crops 2003 Summary recently released by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the wholesale value of domestically produced cut flowers in 2003 was $425 million, virtually unchanged from the year before. Californias value is $306 million, which represents 72% of the total cut flower value in the 36 surveyed states.

The top three cut flower categories are lilies at $69.8 million, roses at $51.9 million, and tulips at $29.6 million. The number of cut flower growers, however, declined to 548. The wholesale value of cut cultivated greens for 2003 is $109 million, down 5%. Floridas value, at $83.4 million, represents 77% of the category total. Although Leatherleaf ferns, at $48.7 million, are down 9% from last year, the value of all other cut greens remained unchanged.
