When the cellulose fibre is used for the first time in the manufacture of paper, is called virgin fiber and when through recycling reuse successive times, referred to as recovered or recycled fiber.
The use of cellulose fiber cycle remains alive and running with the continuous contribution of a certain amount of virgin fiber. This is necessary because the fiber of cellulose will deteriorate with successive uses (it is estimated that it can be reused an average of six times) and 19% of the paper we use may not recover for recycling because we simply keep, as it is the case with the books, documents or photographs, or because for his own use destroys or it becomes damaged, such as sanitary or hygienic paper.
Press the recovered paper as raw material is used in the manufacture of certain types of roles such as paper, paper for packaging, corrugated or coated cardboard, sacks, etc. In Spain the rate of use of recovered paper, which measures the consumption of this with regard to the production of paper, more than 84%, being the highest in Europe.
Recycle to reduce emissions of CO2
The paper is manufactured with fiber of cellulose from plantations of fast growing species intended for this purpose and which otherwise would not exist, so it is not true that recycled paper saves trees.
A recycled paper, as one of Virgin to be ecological fiber needs a clean production process: sometimes treatments of inks by varnishes, oils, solvents, pigments, dyes and other compounds dumped in large quantities can generate negative impacts on the environment.
The recycling of paper does allow reducing landfill and emissions they produce: 4.6 million tons of waste paper recovered for recycling annually in Spain represent a saving of volume in landfill equivalent to 46 large full football as the Bernabeu or Camp Nou stadiums up top and emissions savings in landfill of 4.1 million tons of CO2 (more than 1% of the total emissions resulting in the country).
