September 17, 2009
The Minister of science and innovation, Cristina Garmendia, responded yesterday in Congress to the Group of Convergència and joined (CiU) to an interpellation on the situation of the innovation and the need to give a greater impetus through cross-cutting policies.
In its reply, Garmendia said that "today Spain produces 3% of the global science thanks to a community of researchers that has been able to multiply by nine national scientific production, in the same period in which the World Science as a whole has only multiplied by two". "This important success - added - has placed Spain as a ninth global scientific power and allowed to develop skills and knowledge that must now be transferred and applied in all the productive fabric, to boost an economy based on knowledge and innovation."
According to the Minister, Spain has positioned itself as a fourth receiving country in the last call for grants for young researchers of the European Research Council, "which reflects the capacity of our institutions to attract and retain talent".
