IBILI CELEBRATES ITS 75TH ANNIVERSARY In 2017, Ibili Menaje celebrates its 75th anniversary. The company was founded in 1942 in a small plant in Bergara (Gipuzkoa), which in those times was a relatively important textile and steel manufacturing area, with companies with a strong tradition that were still operating after the war. Relying on that industrial know-how, small manufacturing workshops began to appear in the region to supply a population that needed all kinds of products at affordable prices. Five young entrepreneurs set up one of these workshops in the town centre, where they started producing small items of kitchenware at a very good price, in a post-war environment where everything was in short supply. JORDI CRUZ, TEFAL’S AMBASSADOR Jordi Cruz has been elected as Tefal’s ambassador. The chef has decided to place his trust in this brand for its non-stick characteristics, durability and exclusive Thermospot system, which shows the optimal temperature for cooking, factors that have made Tefal’s product range an optimal solution for the most demanding customers, including the famous chef. SURVEY 2017. A GREAT YEAR FOR KITCHENWARE? Everything seems to suggest that it will be. 2017 is predicted to be the year in which the sector will consolidate its growth, after a 2016 in which the recovery of sales began. To find out how the companies in this sector are experiencing this new economic situation, we asked the following three questions: 1. Recovery has arrived, according to what all the official data appear to reveal. How does this show in the kitchen and tableware industry? 2. What problems overshadow or hinder this recovery? What is your company concerned about? 3. How would you rate 2017’s progress? How is the year expected to continue? REPORT PORTUGAL: THE THRIVING NEIGHBOUR The Portuguese kitchen and tableware sector has started showing signs of recovery. Having a strong cutlery, crockery and cookware industry, this market of slightly more than ten million people has set its sights abroad having learned the lesson: diversifying demand is the best antidote against crises. MARKETS GOOD PROSPECTS FOR THE CUTLERY INDUSTRY After a period characterised by a significant lack of new developments in this industry, the cutlery market has started a moderate rise. It has been one of the market segments most affected by the crisis, as in the case of other tableware products, but now private demand is beginning to pick up and the professional market is recovering dynamism. COFFEE MAKERS: BACK TO TRADITION Despite the fact that the Italian coffee maker market has not provided great innovations for a long time, most companies say that demand is recovering and even facing up to the major competition of single-dose machines. This should, however, be transferred to the catalogues of new products of the industry leaders. MORE ELEGANT AND CREATIVE RECYCLING BINS Independent or integrated into kitchen furniture; single or with internal compartments; affordable and practical or genuine designer articles…with capacities, colours, materials, sizes, opening systems and accessories as varied as the household needs themselves. The market offers such a wide range of recycling bins that we can say it has reached its full maturity. Replacement sales play an important role, ahead of initial purchase. 64 - menaje
