Despite the associated latent technological uncertainty during project development, three configurations of the life extension methodology for different wind turbine outputs (275 kW, 2 MW and 5 MW) were in fact developed. These have enabled the integration of highly complex post-processing algorithms – the wear analysis of multiple structural elements, wear and tear, component failure prediction, a scaling law and the economic indicator tool - that are responsible for calculating the life extension of the wind turbine. Bringing together the analysis of all these algorithms results in an enhanced estimate of reliability and accuracy, as well as reducing uncertainty. No tool currently exists on the market specifically designed for wind power assets such as LIFEX that allows for the multiple analysis of wind turbines, which leads us to conclude that it does indeed represent a completely innovative methodology.
