Si se cumplen los objetivos compartidos con Europa, España contará en 2030 con una potencia nueva termosolar de 5 GW, lo que supone más que triplicar la presencia la tecnología termosolar en el mix energético Attending this tenth edition of CSP Focus in Beijing were experts and representatives across every field of industry to work together in order to highlight CSP technology, analysing the challenges, difficulties and future projects and opportunities facing this sector at global level. Spain is a world reference in the CSP sector, given that it benefits from an installed capacity of 2.3 GW in operation for more than a decade, using different collector technologies - parabolic trough, tower and Fresnel, - with and without molten salt thermal storage. Specifically, the presentation and speech given by Protermosolar offered an analysis and in-depth study of the Spanish CSP industry, in particular, of the development and operation of the 49 plants installed in Spain, as well as a diagnosis of the future expectations of this technology in the country with a special emphasis on the form of operation forecast by Protermosolar: as a complement to PV. In other words, solar PV will dominate the Spanish energy mix during the day, complemented by CSP technology that will be dispatched at night. The regulatory framework recently approved in Spain, on 3 November 2020, will enable the announcement of renewables auctions to comply with and realise the targets of the National Energy and Climate Plan (NECP). If the objectives we share with Europe are met, by 2030 Spain will have a new CSP capacity of 5 GW, representing a three-fold increase in the presence of CSP technology in the energy mix, going from 2.3 GW to 7.3 GW. This will unquestionably position Spain as the world’s leading CSP industry, once again demonstrating the potential of this technology in the country that has witnessed its evolution. For Protermosolar, a key point to establish in the implementation of the new Economic System will be that of specific auctions by technology, in which the dispatch profile to respond to the needs of the system after sunset and to accelerate decarbonisation will justify the inclusion of the new CSP plants contained in the NECP. Our presentation also highlighted the high level of efficiency of CSP power in Spain, strongly emphasising the advantages that set our technology apart from other renewables: massive storage and, as such, the injection of energy into the grid during the evening/night, as well as being the cheapest renewable energy in that time period. PROTERMOSOLAR SHOWCASES SPAIN’S CSP EXPERIENCE IN CHINA Protermosolar has taken part in the 10th CSP Focus conference in China, the world’s largest CSP sector event in this country, attended by over 40 international experts including three speakers from Spain. The event has shared information and experiences on the use of CSP technology with a view to promoting its expansion around the globe.
