El último informe presentado por la Agencia Internacional de la Energía, el World Energy Outlook-2017, indica que para cumplir con el Acuerdo de París y dar una oportunidad al planeta hay que alcanzar un 19% de generación con eólica a nivel mundial para 2040. Para ello, es necesario aumentar la potencia eólica instalada mundial en un 7,5% anual hasta 2040. En Europa tendríamos que alcanzar un 30% de cobertura de la demanda eléctrica con el viento, con un crecimiento de la potencia instalada anual del 5%. En España, según el análisis realizado recientemente por AEE ‘Elementos necesarios para la transición energética. Propuestas para el sector eléctrico’, para llegar a cumplir los objetivos del Acuerdo de París, en el año 2040 el sector eléctrico deberá estar totalmente descarbonizado y la energía eólica debería contar con una potencia instalada de 50.000MW. La potencia adicional eólica es fundamental para cubrir la salida de plantas menos competitivas del sistema y la cobertura del aumento de demanda por mayor actividad económica y electrificación del transporte y la climatización. Además, es necesario contar con la necesaria repotenciación en base al envejecimiento del parque eólico español. El sector eólico español está preparado para afrontar con éxito el crecimiento del parque eólico. En los últimos 20 años, hemos vivido una evolución modélica desde la creación de una sólida cadena de valor, que aborda cada uno de los eslabones de la producción eólica, a ser un referente mundial en exportación. Additional wind power capacity is essential to cover the exit of less competitive plants from the system and to satisfy the increase in demand as a result of greater economic activity and the electrification of transport and temperature control. Moreover, given the ageing of Spain’s wind farms, repowering will be necessary. The Spanish wind power sector is ready to successfully address the growth of the wind farm stock. In the last 20 years we have seen an exemplary evolution from the creation of a sound value chain that encompasses each link in wind production, to become a world reference for export. Spain currently has 195 industrial centres distributed across the country (16 of the 17 autonomous communities have a manufacturing centre), with over 1,000 wind farms, 20 research centres and 22,468 people employed in the sector. These figures are the result of a robust, consolidated industry that is aware of its importance for both the country’s economy and its development. The future of wind power in Spain is promising. Today, we are ranked fifth at global level in terms of installed capacity and forecasts indicate that we can maintain this position or even improve on it. To achieve this as an industrial sector, we need greater visibility along with the appropriate regulatory and financial frameworks. WIND ENERGY, A KEY SECTOR FOR DECARBONISING THE POWER SECTOR Wind power produced 18% of the electricity consumed in Spain during the past year. The contribution of renewable energy to our system has to increase year on year to comply with the targets set by the EU. The global trend is clear: we are committed to renewable energy to cover the growing demand for electricity.
